Celulose: Quais são os desafios de gestão de uma
empresa de papel e celulose diante do cenário atual?
Germano: A Eldorado é uma empresa com duas áreas
bem distintas - florestal e industrial - que devem
funcionar em perfeita sinergia. Na área florestal, os
principais desafios estão ligados a manter a competitividade
das florestas, por meio da busca constante de
material genético adequado, que possa ser responsivo
às alterações climáticas previstas nos melhores
estudos de climatologia. Além disso, há um intenso
investimento em mecanização florestal para reduzir
custos de produção, aumentando a produtividade do
nosso trabalhador e melhorando as condições do seu
posto de trabalho.
Celulose: O Brasil pode ser considerado um território
adequado para a indústria de celulose?
Germano: O país é o mais competitivo para fazer
celulose de fibra curta no mundo, e a Eldorado teve
custo bastante competitivo se comparada às demais
do setor. Na área florestal, as grandes vantagens estruturais
ficam por conta da disponibilidade de terra
no centro-oeste brasileiro, das boas condições climáticas
e da existência de tecnologia apropriada.
Celulose: Desde espaço para a produção, até logística
para escoamento, o país consegue comportar
a demanda que tem se instalado? Os investimentos
e a quantidade de florestas são suficientes?
Germano: Sim. O Brasil é um dos poucos países do
mundo capaz de atender ao aumento da demanda
mundial por celulose sem que seja necessário derrubar
nenhuma árvore nativa, realizando o plantio
em áreas antropizadas, ou seja, áreas anteriormente
utilizadas para outros cultivos e pastagens. A empresa
já iniciou o plantio de florestas para atender à essa
demanda maior por celulose. Hoje, parte dos 217
mil hectares de eucalipto já são destinados à segunda
linha.
Celulose: Um Estado que tem atraído inúmeras
empresas do setor é o Mato Grosso do Sul. Qual a
explicação para este movimento?
Germano: O Mato Grosso do Sul tem vocação para
a produção de celulose na região, por ter disponibilidade
de terras e de água, além de boa intensidade
luminosa, bom índice pluviométrico e topografia pla-
Celulose: What are the challenges for managing a pulp
and paper company under the current business scenario?
Germano: Eldorado is a company operating in two distinct
areas - forestry and industrial - that must work in
perfect synergy. In the forestry area, the main challenges
are linked to maintaining forest competitiveness, through
a constant search for suitable genetic material that is
responsive to climate change foreseen in the most comprehensive
climatology studies. In addition, there is the
large investment in forestry mechanization in order to reduce
production costs, improving our worker productivity
and their workplace conditions.
Celulose: Can Brazil be considered a suitable ground
for the pulp industry?
Germano: The Country has become the most competitive
in short-fiber pulp production in the world, and Eldorado
has a competitive cost structure when compared to others
in the Sector. In the forestry area, the major structural advantages
are in the availability of land in Central-Western
Brazil, with a very suitable climate and the existence of
appropriate technology.
Celulose: From the availability of areas for production
to distribution logistics, is the Country succeeding in
handling the demand that is being installed? Are the
investments and size of the forest sufficient?
Germano: Yes. Brazil is one of the few countries in the
world capable of meeting the growing global demand for
pulp without having to fell any native trees, or planting in
areas previously occupied by other human activities, namely,
areas previously used for other crops and pastures.
The Company has already initiated the planting of forests
to meet the demand for fiber. Today, part of the 217 thousand
hectares of eucalyptus is intended for the second
production line.
Celulose: A State that has attracted numerous companies
in the Sector is the State of Mato Grosso do Sul.
What is the explanation for this?
Germano: The Mato Grosso do Sul Region has a vocation
for pulp production, having land and water availability, in
addition to good sunlight, good rainfall and flat topography.
In addition, the State has demonstrated a political
will in favor of this type of enterprise, which makes all
processes easier.
