a orientar a ação da unidade mais voltada para bioeconomia
e bioprodutos até que em 2016 fizemos uma organização
estratégica na unidade e ao invés de trabalhar com
os quatro eixos originais fizemos uma reorientação para
focar, não mais nos produtos, mas nas áreas temáticas.
Como foi o processo de reestruturação em 2016?
A Embrapa tem uma estrutura que alguns centros são
direcionados para produtos como, por exemplo, a Embrapa
Soja e outros centros são temáticos, como a Agroenergia
e reorganizou em quatro grandes eixos temáticos
que são: biomassas para fins industriais, biotecnologia
industrial, química de renováveis e materiais renováveis,
pensando em como desenvolver tecnologias para permitir
que tenha novas biomassas para o setor industrial,
usando bioorganismos, enzimas, quais os bioprocessos
para desenvolver novos bioprodutos a partir daquelas
biomassas. Então, reestruturamos e demos uma lógica
diferente das outras unidades cujo foco principal era a
parte agrícola e produtores rurais, a Embrapa Agroenergia
tem uma agenda que na verdade conecta a parte do
agro com a indústria. Temos uma lógica mais industrial
de como produzir os biocombustíveis. Como sermos mais
eficientes em biocombustíveis? Quais bioprocessos para
esses bioprodutos? Temos, obviamente, uma parte focada
em novas matérias-primas como canola, macaúba,
com foco muito grande nos produtores, mas o foco maior
é industrial. Nosso papel é fazer conexão entre o agro e a
indústria. Ajudar a estruturar novas agroindústrias, novas
bioindústrias, para com base nessas biomassas, bioprocessos,
obter novos bioprodutos.
Como acontece a parceria da unidade com a
indústria?
Com essa reestruturação identificamos de uma maneira
mais clara que como o nosso segmento de clientes

Unit and, instead of working with the original four areas
of study, we reoriented it to focus no longer on products,
but on thematic areas.
What was the restructuring process in 2016?
Embrapa has a structure that some centers are directed
to products such as Embrapa Soja. Other centers are
thematic studies, such as Agroenergy, which is a Thematic
Study Center and has reorganized into four major thematic
study areas: biomass for industrial purposes, industrial
biotechnology, renewable chemistry, and renewable
materials, thinking about how to develop technologies
to allow new biomass for the Industrial Sector, using bio-
-organisms, enzymes, what are the bioprocesses to create
new bioproducts from those biomasses. So, we restructured
and had a different logic from the other units whose
primary focus is the agricultural and rural producers’
part. Embrapa Agroenergia has an agenda that connects
the agribusiness part with the industrial part. We have a
more industrial logic, that is, of how to produce biofuels.
How can we be more efficient in biofuels? What are the
bioprocesses for these bioproducts? We have, obviously,
a part focused on new raw materials such as canola and
macaúba, with a very strong focus on producers, but our
primary focus is the industrial side. Our role is to make a
connection between agribusiness and industry, to help
structure new agroindustries and new bioindustries so
that new bioproducts can be obtained using bioprocesses
based on these biomasses.
How was the Unit’s partnership with the industry
constructed?
With this restructuring, we identified in a more precise
way that our main customer segment was the Industrial
Sector, mainly chemical and biobased companies.
