‘Hello Hollywood,
Mr. President wants a movie!’
T
he movie “Argo” was given “The
Best Movie Oscar” and it was about
the rescue of 6 embassy officials
during the hostage crisis lived n USA
Embassy, soon after the revolution overthrown
the shah regime in Iran in 1979.
This event again brings on the agenda the
tight connections and relationships between
the White House, Pentagon and
Hollywood. USA President Mr. Barack
Obama’s wife Mrs. Michelle Obama had
participated to live broadcast from the
White House during the ceremony with
her silver colored costume in front of the
millions and she announced this anti-Iran
movie “Argo” was deserved to be awarded.
This was commented as a proof of
the Hollywood effect on USA politics.
It is seen that White House requires cooperation
with the film industry during downturns
in order to boost the morale of the people.
In the “Wag the Dog” (1997) movie directed
by Barry Levinson which was released
with the name of “Men of the President”
in Turkey; Robert de Niro as being consultant
of the White House appeals an interesting
method in order to keep the sex scandal
in which the President’s name is included
out of the agenda of the media and American
people. He gathers together Dustin Hoffman
as in the role of Hollywood producer and directed
the attention of the people towards an
imaginary war scenario. De Niro establishes a
think –tank team in order to manage the crisis
involving the world and he accomplished
to keep busy of the minds of the large masses.
This movie of Levinson elegantly criticizes
the American politics and media morality
and maybe it was bringing the light for
the first time to the coalition made between
the White House and Hollywood which has
a long history.
Cinema is one of the propaganda tools
with highly persuasive power for many USA
Presidents in order to prepare the people to
their political decisions and to create an American
sympathy and support throughout the
international public opinion. The messages
were given sometimes with political and sometimes
with comedy-action movie types.
