Green gold of tourism
heaven Bodrum: OLIVE
The olive, which has been picked with great efforts in January-December
months in Muğla, one of Turkey's most popular tourism
centers, is among the livelihoods of the locals. Also, a significant
portion of this olive is converted to oil. Olive oil is obtained from
the olives collected with great care by different methods.
Olive and olive oil, which dates back to 3,000 years and is considered
as a source of healing by different civilizations in Muğla,
is the means of living of about 40 thousand farmers in organic
production. The olives, also called green gold, are collected by
hand or shake and are divided according to their types. Olives
that are taken to processing plants and poured into the hole, also
called funnel by the workers, are cleaned, washed and crushed by
the machine system. Then the pulp and the juice of the olives are
decomposed.
USABLE BOTH IN TABLE AND INDUSTRY
Oil and black water are separated and taken into the filter tank,
the final residues are winnowed out and left into the rest tank. The
natural oil is then filled into canisters and bottles, and reaches the
tables through public markets and groceries. The remained olive
pomace of the oil is re-grinded and used in various fields in the
industry. Most of the olive and olive oil production in Muğla takes
place in Milas, Bodrum, Yatağan and Menteşe districts.
