hele 45% 18 .
”Even with determined steps to return the financial sector to health and
continued use of macroeconomic policy levers to support aggregate
demand, global activity is projected to contract by 1.3 percent in 2009.
This represents the deepest post‐World War II recession by far.” 19
”The April 2009 issue of the Global Financial Stability Report (GFSR) es‐
timates that, subject to a number of assumptions, credit write‐downs on
U.S.‐originated assets by all holders since the start of the crisis will total
$2.2 trillion …” 20
“… at least 20 million jobs have been lost since October 2008 when the
financial crisis started […] almost 43 million workers are at‐risk of ex‐
clusion from the labour market” 21
… and the rest is history, as they say …
“For the first time since the October 2008 Global Financial Stability Re‐
port, risks to global financial stability have increased […], signaling a
partial reversal in progress made over the past three years. The pace of
the economic recovery has slowed, stalling progress in balance sheet
repair in many advanced economies. Sovereign stress in the euro area
has spilled over to banking systems, pushing up credit and market
risks.” 23
