pert in different situations and it strengthens their courage to move on their own in
the forest and strengthens their learning process. The forest as space is not a neutral
physical surrounding for the activities. The sociality changes there and the objects
play a role as non human actors. The change in sociality transforms the conditions for
the patients’ learning processes, the participants acting differently as patients and
physical therapists due to the changed sociality. When the patients dwell on, pay attention
visually and bodily to different places, and work in the forest several times,
different surroundings such as the surfaces on the forest floor and objects on it, the
air, the light and the smell become meaningful and support the patients’ learning. It
challenges them mentally and physically, giving them a feeling of desire and courage
to move as well as a feeling of freedom and joy. It affects their movement learning
and rehabilitation process. Sometimes the diary is useful for some of the patients
during their rehabilitation period, especially in the beginning and when they are
having problems in their rehabilitation or later when something turns out differently
than expected by the patient.
They find the diary useful as a means of communicating with the physical therapist
and in that way they get the possibility of presenting concrete problems and
having an influence on practice; they also find it useful for reflecting on their own
reactions and problems, and for remembering concrete activities. In the diaries the
patients write about their reactions to different situations; concrete activities that are
meaningful for them; the meaning of dialog with other patients or the physical therapist;
their reflections on the transfer of activities or physical or mental experiences to
other fields of their everyday life, and about their feelings of joy, fear, courage and
frustration. The short ‘narratives’ in the diaries make me as a physical therapist aware
of different important aspects and support me in creating a practise that is influenced
by he patients and reflects their needs
