Today the biodiversity informatics research unit is one of the
leading facilities in the field and is involved in national and international
projects, developing procedures for the storage, networ-

king and visualisation of data on the diversity and variability of
all manner of organic life forms.
The BGBM has developed standards and software systems for
the networking of biological databases that are installed in over
a hundred institutions in 20 countries and deliver a valuable
contribution to the understanding of our biodiversity and its interaction
with climate and human interventions. AG
