Dear Mr. Kramer, I am much grateful for your telephone call. I understand that all the members of the BL are sympathetic for the difficulties our country is now facing. The problems are taking a turn for the better and the TLT practices will be resumed next week. Thank you again for your call for the charity concert scheduled on 26.03. Adults can work as usual. Now there are not so big problem. 11th Friday I worked in Tokyo. It was not usual so my family worried about me very much. I could not come back my home on Friday. But Saturday I could come back to home by train. Quakes are looking become reduce now. But we must keep caution still now and future. Kanagawa placed on three big plates and we always notice and prepare for big earthquake. Also we have a nuclear crisis. Its responsibility comes from human doing not nature reason. Dear Mr. Kramer, I have talked with our president, Mr. Shibuya, on your warmhearted offer concerning donation for the victims of the catastrophe in Northern Japan. We are much grateful for the consideration and sympathy, which come beyond the long distance between our two countries, and pleased to accept money collected by the BL and to deliver it to an appropriate society in the name of the Berliner Liedertafel for the sake of the people now in utmost difficulty. According to the news media more than twenty thousand people are found dead or missing. Some hundreds thousand people lost their houses and some thousand families living within 30 km from the nuclear power plants have to leave their home temporarily. This is actually the most serious tragedy in the modern history of our country except the World War II. Still now we have occasional stoppage of electricity and difficulty in purchasing gasoline due to trouble in distribution system of goods. As a result of heroic endeavor of the power plant workers, the fire brigades and the self-defense force members, the situation of the nuclear plants is reported to have got well slightly. They continue to spray water on the troubled plants and also are trying to reoperate the automatic cooling devices. The radiation level around the plants is going down and the temperature of the nuclear reactors is coming below the tolerance level. The Tokyo/Yokohama area is about 250km apart from the power plants concerned and there is no problem of radioactive contamination here. Some TLT members were born or spent their childhood in Northern Japan and there are some cases where their relatives were involved in physical damages. However most of the TLT members are very active and the various activities will be resumed this week. I am no specialist in the field of nuclear energy but sure that the circumstances here will improve step by step with the valuable supports given by the overseas friends.
