hydraulically operated piston. This type of feeding system has proven<br />

very robust and reliable, however not suitable for larger plants.<br />

Following various difficulties during the initial operation period the<br />

plant now operates very well.<br />

Måbjerg CHP Plant is a combined waste, straw and wood chip-fired plant<br />

co-fired with natural gas. Two of the three boilers are waste-fired and the<br />

third boiler is fired with straw and wood chips. A natural gas-fired superheater<br />

is located in the steam line from each boiler providing the final superheat<br />

of the steam. The plant went into operation in 1992 and supplies<br />

heat to the city of Holstebro and power to the national grid. Figure 1<br />

shows a photo of the plant.<br />

The steam data of the bioboiler are 15 kg/s / 65 bar / 410 °C and the<br />

firing concept is designed according to the so-called "cigar principle" feeding<br />

straw onto a vibrating grate.<br />

The boiler is 100 % straw and wood chip-fired and the annual consumption<br />

amounts to 50,000 tonnes of straw and 17,000 tonnes of wood<br />

chip. The total net output is 28 MW electricity and 67 MJ/s heat at an<br />

annual production of 1,440 TJ heat and 160 GWh electricity.<br />
