Maintaining an idyll
The meadows and forests of the Zillertal Alps high mountain nature park are
a centuries old cultural and natural landscape that requires a great deal of
maintenance. Which is why every year volunteers spend an unusual holiday in the
valley: planting young trees, clearing pastures of bushes and rocks and enjoying an
original way of life in the mountains.
Schon beim Beginn der Bergwaldprojekte in Österreich
im Jahr 2002 war das Bergsteigerdorf
Ginzling in hinteren Zillertal mit dabei. Seither
finden praktisch jedes Jahr Umweltbaustellen
und Bergwaldprojekte im Tal statt und erfreuen
sich größter Beliebtheit, kann Willi Seifert, Geschäftsführer
der Naturparkbetreuung Zillertaler
Alpen, berichten: „Die Leute warten schon hart,
bis die Termine veröffentlicht werden, um rasch
einen der seltenen Plätze zu erwischen.“
Während Umweltbaustellen für Menschen zwischen
16 und 30 Jahren sind, machen bei den
Bergwaldprojekten auch noch Freiwillige bis

end of Zillertal has been involved in the mountain
forest projects in Austria right since the beginning
in 2002. Since then environmental construction
sites and mountain forest projects have been taking
place in the valley practically every year and
are incredibly popular, as Willi Seifert, Managing
Director of the Zillertal Alps nature park, reports:
“People are keenly waiting for the dates to be
published to quickly grab one of the rare places.”
