At the beginning of the 55th annual Piešťany Festival, Remo Cicutto, the Mayor of Town, presented a commemorative medal to
Edita Bieloševičová, the House of Art director, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the opening of the House of Art.

Spa. Together with his relatives (especially with
his brother Imrich) and his co-workers, he built
up the spa and introduced it to the world. He
constantly designed new plans for its
development and his ideas are inspiring even
today. Many buildings were constructed
thanks to him such as Kursalon, Pro Patria,
Thermia Palace Hotel, spas Irma, Zelený strom,
Sandor Pavillon... and the majority of them are
still in operation. The town was built thanks to
his ideas and effort, he made the lives of
Piešťany’s inhabitants more comfortable and
he succeeded in attracting a large number of
spa guests. Much has already been written
regarding his life and endeavors. He described
the source of his success as well as the
strength to overcoming obstacles that he
constantly encountered in following words:
“Science itself cannot help a doctor to be a
good doctor. He needs satisfied patients to be
successful. The same principle should be
applied to people who manage the spa. Those
who are not in love with their specialisation,
who do not connect their heart and soul with
the interests of spa guests, could hardly be
successful. Besides science, love for the guests
is a criterion of success as well.” Ľudovít
Winter was a supporter of the idea that
besides medicine, spiritual and cultural life are
also a part of the treatment, something his
brother Imrich helped him with.
In 1925, the Town Library in Piešťany was
founded. It is celebrating its 85th anniversary
this year. The library has gradually become one
of the most important cultural institutions in
the town. It has gone beyond simply lending
books to now providing many more services
and interesting activities for readers and
visitors of the library. The modern-day
premises host unusual meetings of readers of
different age categories with the authors of
books, as well as workshops, exhibitions and a
unique festival “The Magic Nut” with the
subtitle “The Book in the Radio - The Radio in
the Book”. The present-day building of the
library was designed by another man
celebrating an important anniversary this year
- the architect Bohuslav Pernecký together
with his colleagues.
Bobo Pernecký, as all of his relatives and
acquaintances call him, celebrated his 60th
birthday this year. If we named all his activities,
it would be clear that this modest man lives his
life very intensively. Just as Ľudovít Winter, he
proves that if a man likes his work and if he
likes those people who his work is intended
for, then success will definitely follow. Not only
his projects but also his unique caricatures
with special handwriting have become an
inseparable part of the life of the inhabitants
of Piešťany.
The Piešťany Festival has been a part of the
summer programme of our spa town for more
than 50 years. Its tones resounded from
numerous stages throughout the town for the
55th time. The House of Art has been the
main seat of the Piešťany Festival since 1980.
This institution is also celebrating its
anniversary - 30 years of existence during
which time it has become a place for the most
important cultural events not only for Piešťany
but also for all of Slovakia. You can read more
