Hamburg – gateway to the world < News
Mit einem Mengenzuwachs von 17 Prozent auf 2,14 Mio.
TEU übertraf die Hamburg Süd-Gruppe den Branchendurchschnitt
wiederum deutlich.
halten. Trotz des wesentlich schwächeren USD erzielte
die Hamburg Süd zusammen mit der brasilianischen
Reederei Alianca eine Umsatzsteigerung um zwölf
Prozent oder 400 Mio. Euro auf fast 3,6 Mrd. Euro.
Diese schlug leider insbesondere wegen der stark
steigenden operativen Kosten nicht voll ins Ergebnis
durch. Besonders zu erwähnen sind hierbei die deutlich
höheren Bunkerkosten. Dennoch ist das Ergebnis 2007
der Hamburg Süd-Gruppe insgesamt, nicht zuletzt aufgrund
der sehr erfolgreichen Massengutfahrt, als durchaus
zufriedenstellend einzustufen. Noch keinen merklichen
Umsatz- und Ergebnisbeitrag leistete das zum 1. Dezember
übernommene Geschäft der Reederei Costa Container
Lines S.p.A.
Hamburg Süd Group with satisfactory
earnings figures in 2007, with highest level of
investment in the company’s history
Based on the continuing high rate of economic growth
around the world of more than five per cent, the container
shipping industry recorded an increase in the volume
of cargo of just under eleven per cent. With a jump
Foto: Hamburg Süd
in volume of 17 per cent, to 2.14 million TEU, the
Hamburg Süd Group once again exceeded the industry
average by a wide margin. The strongest impulses resulted
from the further development of the “Trident” service,
which links Europe with the U.S. and Australia/New
Zealand, and from the strong growth in cargo volume
from and to the Far East. This led to a marked increase
in sales revenues for the liner services compared with the
previous year. Double-digit growth was also recorded in
the tramp sector, which maintained its share of around
13 per cent. Despite the considerable weakening of the
U.S. dollar, Hamburg Süd together with the Brazilian
shipping company Alianca recorded an increase in sales
revenues of 12 per cent, or Euro 400 million, to almost
Euro 3.6 billion. Unfortunately this increase did not
impact fully on earnings due to the large increases in
operating costs. Worthy of special mention here are the
marked increases in bunkering costs. Nevertheless the
2007 result of the Hamburg Süd Group overall must be
considered satisfactory, not least thanks to the highly
successful bulk cargo operations. No significant contribution
to revenues and earnings was made as yet by the
shipping company Costa Container Lines S.p.A. (CCL)
of Genoa, which was acquired on 1 December and whose
liner services will be continued under the same name.
The investment budget was set at about Euro 600 million,
some 70 per cent higher than in the previous year, and
the highest investment volume in the corporate history
of Hamburg Süd.
