new trends in lighting
a significant new trend that is moving beyond austria’s borders is the light-emitting diode
(lEd for short). when charged with electricity, this semiconductor diode radiates light, either
infrared or ultraviolet, with a wavelength determined by the particular material used.

kurz lEd für light Emitting bzw. lichtemittierende diode). fließt durch dieses
elektronische halbleiter-bauelement strom, strahlt sie licht, infrarot- (als infrarotdiode) oder
auch ultraviolettstrahlung mit einer vom halbleitermaterial abhängigen wellenlänge ab.

which in 2008 were honoured with the
ministry of Economics’ 28th state award for innovation.
in 1997, lumitech were founded as a spin­off of graz’s
technical university by dr. günther leising, and since then
have worked on development of highly innovative lighting
solutions in the areas of lEd technology, electroluminescent­paste
technology and optoelectronics. lumitech produktion
und Entwicklung gmbh in jennersdorf are also an
international leader in the field of white­light technology:
for the past ten years, the company has successfully performed
development ordered by more than 30 internationally
renowned companies, the majority involving
highly sensitive areas such as security technology, and is a
development partner of many European industrial and medical­technology
companies. in 2001, a joint venture was
launched with Zumtobel and the toyota corporation of
japan. a special area that receives a great deal of attention
is lighting for museums and shops. the exterior of the Wiener
Konzerthaus, for example, is lit with lumitech lEds,
which also illuminate the artworks in the Salzburg museum
so that their colours shine in their best light.

gmbh entwickelte lEd­modul kann die Effizienz der
ohnehin schon effizienten lEd­technologie um weitere 30
prozent für warmweißes licht gesteigert werden. im Vergleich
zu einer Standard­glühbirne ermöglicht das lEdmodul
eine Energieeinsparung von bis zu 85 prozent, die
