ST/no dialogueIn den vergangenen 20 Jahren hat der Kurzfilm dank zahlreicher Produktionenund einer bis dato unerreichten Vielfalt an filmischen Arbeiten einengroßen Beitrag zum portugiesischen Film geleistet. Im Zuge dieser lebhaftenEntwicklung hat sich eine Vielzahl junger, talentierter Filmemacherhervorgetan, darunter auch die Regisseure, deren Filme im Rahmen diesesProgramms präsentiert werden.Jeder Einzelne von ihnen hat auf seine Weise einen wichtigen Beitrag zurjüngeren portugiesischen Filmgeschichte geleistet. Obgleich sie keiner gemeinsamenästhetischen Schule angehören, haben diese jungen Talenteeiniges gemeinsam, denn ihre Filme sind allesamt eine Bestätigung der großenVielfalt des portugiesischen Kurzfilms und teilen eine ästhetische undthematische Bewegtheit, die sie einzigartig macht.Vom Kurzfilm sind alle diese Filmemacher den nächsten logischen Schrittzum Spielfilm gegangen. Aber ihre kreative Fantasie hat sie immer wiederdazu bewegt, zum Kurzfilm zurückzukehren. Sie haben das Paradigma desKurzfilms mit ihrer Kreativität und professionellen Arbeit verändert und seineabsolute Autonomie für sich genutzt. Sie haben Werke von einzigartigerDichte erschaffen, ohne offensichtliche Zwänge berücksichtigen zu müssen,die sich aus der Filmlänge ergeben.Der elegante Humor und die eigentümliche Erzählweise von João Nicolauwaren bereits in seinem ersten Kurzfilm „Rapace“ zu bewundern. Und „31“von Miguel Gomes ist ein gutes Beispiel für den inneren Dialog, der sich ineinem Werk abspielt und in seiner Freiheit und formalen Erzählweise eineWeiterentwicklung darstellt, für die der Regisseur von „Tabu“ derzeit auf derganzen Welt Anerkennung findet.Die „bewegte“ Zukunft, die diesem Programm ihren Namen gibt, beschreibtgleichzeitig auch den Zustand des hochgradig labilen und vom Untergangbedrohten portugiesischen Films, der es bis heute irgendwie geschafft hat,trotz wirtschaftlicher Krisen und politischer Fort- und Rückschritte, zuüberleben – genau wie der Tanz des Lebens aus Sandro Aguilars „Remains“,der aus Staub und Tod hervorgeht. Die Situation in Portugal erinnert an dasFeuer, das in „O Que Arde Cura“ von João Rui Guerra da Mata alles vernichtet,damit aus der Asche etwas Neues entstehen kann.Over the past 20 years, short film has contributed to Portuguese cinemathrough great dynamism in its production and with a diversity of cinematicworks incomparable in its history. This vitality has ensued the emergenceof many talents, such as the authors presented in this programme, whoeach in their own way have written an important page in recent Portuguesecinema history.Without ever belonging to any aesthetic movement that would unite them,what these directors have in common is the confirmation of that diversityand the evidence of an aesthetic and thematic restlessness that turns theirfilms into unique objects. They have all progressed from short film to itsmost logical consequence, the transition to feature films.Nonetheless, their creative sparkle has caused a frequent return to the shortformat, changing the short film paradigm with a newly creative and professionalperspective by benefiting from its prodigious autonomy that helpscreate an original and consistent work without too obvious hierarchiesresulting from the length of the respective films: The elegant humour andpeculiar narrative artifice we associate with the work of João Nicolau wasalready present in his first short fiction "Rapace" ("Bird of Prey").And Miguel Gomes’ film "31" is a good example of this internal dialoguewithin the work of an author, representing a step forward in his liberty andformal narrative, which the whole world is currently admiring as the authorof "Tabu" ("Taboo").However the "restless future" that provides the title to this programme alsoserves as the state motto for the endlessly vulnerable and threatened Portuguesecinema that, between economic crises and political developmentsand retreats, obstinately persists – just like the dance of life that arises fromdust and death in "Remains" by Sandro Aguilar.
