Phantasialand Brühl
Ein aktuelles Beispiel hierfür ist das im Rahmen der Regionale 2010 entstandene
Projekt :terra nova. Besucher können sich im Forum :terra nova
einerseits über den Braunkohletagebau informieren und sich selbst ein
Bild vom über 400 Meter tiefen Tagebau Hambach machen, aber auch
beispielsweise eine Fahrrad- oder Inlineskater-Tour vom Erftradweg über
die ehemalige Fernbandanlage und die Grubenrandstraße bis zum Forum
:terra nova unternehmen. Weitere Projektbausteine sind ein langgezogener
Park über die ehemalige Fernbandtrasse, eine auf Energiewirtschaft
ausgerichtete Forschungs- und Entwicklungslandschaft und ein
Aussichts- und Besucherforum am Rande der Tagebaukante.
Housing and Living – Green Oases and Big City Atmosphere
The distance from the Rhine-Erft district to the inner city of Cologne is only a few
kilometres. The hustle and bustle of the big city can be quickly reached by bus or
train and the way back to the rural environment is just as quick. This is quality of
life. A house in the country can be found here at affordable prices. For families a
wide offer of nursery schools, day care centres and youth facilities is available
here as well as good and attractive shopping facilities and a varied programme
of cultural, sports and leisure offers. The ten municipalities of the district have
their own special character: While Bergheim, Kerpen and Pulheim are middleorder
centres with local attraction, Elsdorf and Bedburg with their numerous urban
districts provide a more rural picture. The town with the largest area is Erftstadt.
Brühl is world-famous for the castles of Augustusburg and Falkenlust which
are counted among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Hürth is a media town
where urban flair and rural ambience are closely combined. A special feature of
Frechen and Wesseling is their proximity to Cologne. The Rhine-Erft district has
become a very green region again – it was not always like this. The open-cast
lignite mining has changed the original countryside very drastically – today
many of these areas are available again for leisure and recreation.
