HYPE OR HOPE?
Anyone who is curious about the topic of nutritional supplements quickly realizes that
there is an incredible amount of information and just as many suppliers out there. But
when does the use of individual dietary additives really make sense?
First we need to define:
Nutritional supplements
belong within the food
pyramid. In combination
with a healthy diet, they are
designed to ensure optimal
care and compensate for any
deficiencies.
Perhaps you have already
searched for them online, because
you heard they promise
to help with fatigue, stress,
susceptibility to infections,
an unhealthy lifestyle and so
on. If you have, you’ll already
know the flood of information
leading you in all directions.
On the one hand, the
manufacturers of such
supplements attribute Fe
very good effects to
their products and
sometimes advertise them
with facts that are not proven.
On the other hand, you
will find the recommendations
of the consumer advice
centers. To them, nutritional
supplements are some sort of
red flag. Their basic attitude is
that people who usually take
those additives do not need
a supplement at all, because
they’re already aware of how
to eat healthy. If you aren’t
already confused, you surely
will be after the research.
So, who to trust and what to
know?
Insights from blood
analysis
Generally what you find
on the net are rather vague
and very general statements
- pro and contra.
Our tip for people who feel
stressed, drained, tired or
lacking in energy is to go
through the known factors
and see what could be the
problem: stress, work, family,
relationship, unhealthy
diet,
sufficient
exercise. The symptoms
mentioned above can
also occur as side-effects
from medication. Lifestyle
and living conditions can
have an enormous impact
on health.
D
We know that there are
many reasons that make
it difficult to change your
everyday lifestyle and
habits right away. Therefore,
we recommend first to
have a blood test done by a
doctor. We don’t mean the
“regular” blood count that a
family doctor occasionally
does as a routine check
but an exact blood analysis
which shows your entire
individual micronutrient
levels, including vitamins,
minerals, trace elements,
fatty acids etc. If, for
example, the investigation
finds that there is a vitamin
D deficiency, important B
vitamins are missing, or
the ratio of omega3 to
omega6 fatty acids
is poor, beginning a
regimen of dietary
supplements that
contain these substances
in sufficient
quantities can have a
positive effect on general
wellbeing.
Bioavailability is
important
The consumption of
dietary supplements with
the attitude „A lot helps
a lot“ may be questioned
critically. Because some
substances, such as the
fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E
and K should definitely be
dosed correctly, otherwise
there may be side effects.
To avoid this, a status quo is
needed. Because: If you do
not know what is missing
in what quantity, you can’t
make an informed decision.
It is important when dietary
supplements are taken
that they meet high quality
standards. These include
that they do not contain any
anti-caking agents, artificial
flavors and lubricants. Only
pure substances should
be used and good bioavailability*
ensured, as is the
case of products by provider
Naturafit. Unnecessary
chemical additives strain
the body and can even
trigger allergies.
If you need help finding the
right supplements, talk to
your trusted doctor or local
pharmacy. We would refrain
from making purchases
on dubious websites with
promises that allegedly apply
equally to everyone. Of
course you can also come
to Gesundbar in Friedrichshain!
Here you can find out
how you can increase your
well-being and quality of
life in a relaxed, personal
atmosphere .
In pharmacology, bioavailability is a subcategory of absorption. It
means the proportion of a drug or other substance which enters the
circulation when introduced into the body and so is able to have an active effect.
