The discourse topic BestandTeile takes up various aspects
of current discourses and first of all fundamentally asks
about our approach to and handling of architecture. What
constitutes architecture? Architecture, for example, is
always a cultural phenomenon situated in space and time.
Consideration of the dimensions and media of its manifestation,
as well as the conditions and possibilities, right up to
competing power relations and world views, could be starting
points here. At the same time, it is also about the very
concrete examination of the physical components of architecture
such as columns, walls, roofs, etc., as well as the
implications and micronarratives discursively associated
with them.
A look back is just as fruitful for this as the examination
of the multitude of newly designed components that
have become possible due to developments in material
research as well as digital design and production. However,
the title BestandTeile does not only deal with this aspect of
the parts, but also with the discussion about an appropriate
handling of the already existing architectural artefacts –
the stock. In the course of the discussion about sustainability,
existing buildings are currently being re-evaluated.
With the discourse topic BestandTeile we propose
to engage with historical components due to contemporary,
historical and future changes in social conditions and technical
innovations and to understand this as an opportunity
to vision and develop new components of architecture, as
well as to reflect and rethink the discussions about what conditions
architecture and the relationship of the discipline
to its components on every scale.
