MARGARITA LANDAZURI: And he was not involved in filmmaking at all. He was just an enthusiast,<br />

right?<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: Right. I had no idea who he was. And that was his introduction to the Festival. We<br />

can talk about him later, of course, because there wouldn’t be a <strong>Film</strong> Festival <strong>with</strong>out George Gund.<br />

Without George this thing would have been gone a long time ago, because he was the godfather, and<br />

may still be, I don’t know. But he sure as hell was back then.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Oh, yeah. He was there, and he was introduced on Closing Night. Were<br />

you there this year?<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: Yes. I went to the Awards night.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Closing Night they showed a trailer leading up to next year. And there<br />

were several pictures of you.<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: Oh, really?<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Yeah, just a little montage of photos of the 50 years. So, you were<br />

talking about all these cost saving measure—a change in ticket sales, marketing to big corporations?<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: I think we tried to expand and tried to keep our costs down. And this was—who<br />

was the chairman—<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Is that Mosk? Stanley Mosk. A California Supreme Court Justice.<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: Yes. He was our general chairman that year. He was a great guy. I loved him. For<br />

the selection committee, we brought in Alan Drury.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: The novelist.<br />
