MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Was he difficult?<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: No. I didn’t find him difficult. He was a pretty gracious guy. All these people<br />

were—I can’t think of anyone who was not honored, to be honored. They enjoyed that opportunity to<br />

see themselves on film; I mean, we had great people that year, when you get right down to it. We had<br />

some wonderful films: the de Sica film, Garden of the Finzi-Continis, Uncle Vanya, Sunday Bloody<br />

Sunday—<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Murmur of the Heart.<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: Murmur of the Heart, right.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: You had Merle Oberon.<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: Well, that was a very interesting story.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Oh, good. Tell.<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: That was a very, very interesting story. She had made a film <strong>with</strong> Robert Walters,<br />

who was married to—<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Audrey Hepburn.<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: Correct. I got a call from the mayor, and he said, “Merle Oberon’s got this<br />

film”—I don’t know how he got involved—“that she wants to show on Opening Night. She thinks it<br />

would be a great Opening-Night film.” I said, “OK, We’ll go down and take a look at it.” And we went<br />
