CLAUDE JARMAN: He was. He had his own crowd. The New Directors series was interesting. We had<br />

Barbara Loden, who was there <strong>with</strong> Elia Kazan. I had a chance to spend some time <strong>with</strong> him.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Really?<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: Yes. We never could get him to do anything, but he’s still one of my favorite<br />

directors. But he was there to support her.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: She got quite a reception, didn’t she?<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: Yes and it was well received. The whole idea was trying to feature new directors.<br />

Also, Jerry Schatzberg, who was involved <strong>with</strong> Faye Dunaway.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: They were involved somehow. Puzzle of a Downfall Child, was that the<br />

film?<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: Yes, which was not a great film by any means, but it was OK.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Pretty to look at. Nice to look at.<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: It was a festival film. Let me see the other films that year.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Oh, Truffaut’s The Wild Child, Buñuel’s Tristana.<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: I know we had the Chabrol film, Le Bouchet, which was pretty good.<br />

MARGARITA LANDAZURI: Was he there that year? That was another year, wasn’t it?<br />

CLAUDE JARMAN: No, he wasn’t there that year. Tristana was a Buñuel film.<br />
