12 American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia YEARBOOK 2010 American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia AmCham Croatia was formed to advance the interests and views of U.S. and other foreign businesses in Croatia and of Croatian businesses abroad, to assist in improving the business environment in Croatia generally and to promote high standards of commercial practice. We are an independent, nonprofit, non-governmental organization with over 160 members and an accredited affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington and European Council of American Chambers of Commerce (ECACC) network, including ECACC’s ‘Mutual Services & Benefits’ Program. Members are provided the opportunity to expand their business and government contacts, exchange useful information, enhance community goodwill and to use other AmCham’s services, including: • establishing and maintaining close communication between businesses and the Croatian government and its institutions • organizing variety of networking activities: lunch meetings with keynote speakers, sponsored cocktails, power breakfasts, seminars, roundtables • publishing a magazine that contains a broad range of relevant information for businesses and reports on AmCham events • identifying impediments to business and making suggestions as to how these problems can be resolved or reduced, through committee and task force work/advocacy • promoting philanthropic projects benefiting the broader community • publishing position papers on business issues affecting our membership AmCham members come from many parts of the business community: U.S. companies, Croatian companies, U.S. citizens, Croatian citizens, companies / citizens from other countries and non-profit organizations. YEARBOOK 2010 American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia Activities Report July 2009 – September 2010 AmCham Committees/Task Forces AmCham’s advocacy activities are conducted through its committees and task forces. The Board of Governors, the Executive Office and the Committees work together to achieve Am- Cham’s goals set forth in our strategic plan. Committees deliver reports on their activities and participate in the discussion of issues and planning of events relevant to their areas of interest. In many instances, we have a cross-coordination between committees. AmCham Croatia currently has seven active committees/task forces dealing with issues important to AmCham members and hosting representatives from several ministries and U.S. Embassy at their meetings. As in previous years, we had a chance to raise issues and showcase initiatives started by various committees and task forces. Therefore, there is a continuing need for proactive members who are willing to dedicate time, imagination and enthusiasm to committee/task force activities. We invite you to join and work with the committees/task forces that reflect your needs. Activities We have had two significant accomplishments in the preceding 12 months. The Environmental Committee is well known as a founder of the post graduate Environmental Management Studies program at the University of Zagreb and we presently sit on the Steering Committee. We are now also co founding members of The Solar Cluster out of Rijeka, referred to below, as well as co founders of the new Green Building Council of 13
