8 American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia YEARBOOK 2010 Dear AmCham Members and Friends, I am honored to have the opportunity of addressing the AmCham membership in the annual yearbook. I consider the AmCham to be one of the U.S. Embassy’s strongest partners in tackling the economic and commercial issues that affect U.S. and other foreign investment and trade in Croatia. So it is with gratitude and encouragement that I recall what we have accomplished together in the past year and point to what remains to be achieved. It has been an eventful year in Croatia. With a new Prime Minister and a new President, the country has taken important steps in the fight against corruption and toward the economic reform that is necessary to achieve the competitiveness and attractiveness to investment that will provide growth and prosperity as Croatia approaches European Union accession. As I said in my first major address after my arrival last year delivered at the AmCham, EU membership is not a panacea to the economic problems that Croatia faces, but simply an important step on the path toward successful participation in the global marketplace. AmCham can and should continue its efforts to impact and inform the implementation of meaningful economic reforms. As we all know, a sound regulatory and legal framework is the foundation on which firms must rely when deciding to invest. I and my commercial and economic staff will also continue to advocate for an improved business environment, fairness and openness in commercial transactions, and expanding the American business presence in Croatia. Together we can help create and nurture a growing and vibrant economy to match the great potential of Croatia and its people. I look forward to continuing the U.S. Embassy’s partnership with AmCham and to the contributions we will make in the coming years to Croatia’s growth and success. YEARBOOK 2010 American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia Dear AmCham Members and Friends, It is an honor to address you as the new Executive Director of AmCham Croatia, approaching with you the end of 2010. After twelve years in Croatia, AmCham counts 163 American, Croatian and international companies. As respected business organization, AmCham managed to grow despite challenging economic situation. What is even more important, companies which joined us within 2010 have taken active role showing they see AmCham as valuable support to deal with daily business challenges. Therefore, it is my pleasure to present you the AmCham Croatia 2010 Yearbook with recent membership directory. Once again it will remind you about prominent network of companies and associations which constitute AmCham today and opportunities it makes for business development. Networking opportunities we provide every month already have become more frequent in 2010 and will be even more targeted to give the best value for different management profiles of our members. In 2010 ambassador Foley as well as the American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia were speaking actively about business and investment climate in Croatia, as one of the most important challenges to start new investment cycle in Croatia. Trade & Investment Committee gained new members and supported government initiatives for diminishing investment barriers with their inputs. Our Health Care Committee has reactivated after several years and started active dialog with Ministry of Health and Croatian Institute for Health Insurance covering healthcare topics. IPR Committee co-organized successful IPR conference educating general public, companies and institutions about intellectual property rights. In 2011 we intend to focus even more on our advocacy efforts. Providing opportunities for company promotion is one of four pillars of our activities. Communication channel we offer today, beside E-bulletin, Q-bulletin promoting M2M discounts, publications, is our new, refreshed web site launched in November. Through close contact with members we intend to be even more familiar to members’ businesses and challenges. Looking forward to 2011, our efforts are focused on fostering regional cooperation. We shall continue seeking to strengthen dialogue and interaction between US and Croatia to further develop our business relations. I hope you will find 2010 Yearbook as a useful tool for your business.
