YEARBOOK 2010 <strong>American</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> Commerce in Croatia<br />

- the Commercial Service.Our mission is to improve<br />

protection and commercialization <strong>of</strong> IPR in<br />

Croatia.<br />

AmCham and consulting company Vernexo<br />

jointly organized Intelektiv – intellectual property<br />

rights business conference during February 2010.<br />

With 150 participants mostly from services, marketing,<br />

telecom, media and IT industries, Intelektiv<br />

topics covered commercialization, management<br />

and protection <strong>of</strong> IPR including patents, industrial<br />

design, trademarks and copyright. Committee initiated<br />

cooperation with Ministry <strong>of</strong> Finance – Customs.<br />

At two shopping malls, at the begging <strong>of</strong> the<br />

year Customs organized presentations <strong>of</strong> counterfeited<br />

products seized. Goal was to present risks <strong>of</strong><br />

counterfeited products to economy and also health<br />

and security risks for consumers. Consumers and<br />

media interest was far above expectations.<br />

Future plans include continuation <strong>of</strong> close<br />

cooperation with Governmental bodies, raising<br />

motivation <strong>of</strong> relevant authorities around IPR, engagement<br />

with existing or future IPR related projects,<br />

regional connections with IPR Committees<br />

in surrounding countries, raising awareness <strong>of</strong><br />

the importance <strong>of</strong> IPR protection and education<br />

<strong>of</strong> the market. IPR Committee will continue participation<br />

and actively support activities <strong>of</strong> newly<br />

formed Committee for cooperation with IPR rightholders<br />

– established by Sate Intellectual Property<br />

Office.<br />

Committee is working close with local business<br />

community and other pr<strong>of</strong>essional organizations<br />

that take care about IPR and perceive it as<br />

essential business tool.<br />

Activity report 2010/2011<br />

AmCham exists for its members. And its<br />

existence is based on them. AmCham’s success<br />

can only be measured by success <strong>of</strong> its members<br />

to understand, utilize and benefit from service and<br />

products that AmCham provides.<br />

In turbulent 2009, that brought to Croatia and<br />

companies operating here a lot <strong>of</strong> business, financial,<br />

and social challenges, AmCham successfully attracted<br />

and accepted 36 new members and finished<br />

a year with a total <strong>of</strong> 156 members. By knowing that<br />

2010 will be even more challenging for business in<br />

Croatia, in January 2010 the Board <strong>of</strong> Governors decided<br />

to up-grade Marketing and Membership Task<br />

Force into a Committee and set a clear agenda – to<br />

support its members business, image and success.<br />

While attracting the new members is a clear<br />

goal for a business organization such as AmCham,<br />

this year the retention <strong>of</strong> existing members is set<br />

as the priority that needs to be addressed, considered<br />

and handled. Therefore the main goals <strong>of</strong><br />

newly formed Marketing and Membership Committee<br />

were defined:<br />

• Implementation <strong>of</strong> AmCham members’ servi ces<br />

& products packages incl. Standards and extras for<br />

members, Incentives, Member-2-member program<br />

• Development <strong>of</strong> communication strategy with<br />

members incl. Implementation <strong>of</strong> communication<br />

channels – web-site, News & Views magazine, Ebulletin;<br />

re-defining communication messages in<br />

communication with existing and potential members;<br />

Media relations implementation; Creating or empowering<br />

new communication channels and means<br />

• Continuous and active feedback collection<br />

(communication, exchange, surveys…) and<br />

based on it - implementation <strong>of</strong> AmCham members’<br />

services and products.<br />

In such challenging times as 2010 is and<br />

2011 is still expected to be, attracting and retaining<br />

satisfied, loyal, active and committed AmCham<br />

members and creating greater values for them<br />

shall be the ultimate goals <strong>of</strong> Membership and<br />

Marketing Committee within AmCham.<br />
