S<strong>in</strong>ce 1914, <strong>the</strong> American <strong>Jewish</strong> Jo<strong>in</strong>t Distribution Committee, Inc. (JDC) has<br />

served as <strong>the</strong> overseas arm of <strong>the</strong> American <strong>Jewish</strong> community. Our mission is to<br />

serve <strong>the</strong> needs of Jews throughout <strong>the</strong> world, particularly where <strong>the</strong>ir lives as<br />

Jews are threatened or made more difficult. Sponsor<strong>in</strong>g programs of relief, rescue<br />

and renewal and help<strong>in</strong>g Israel address its most urgent social challenges, <strong>the</strong> JDC<br />

is committed to <strong>the</strong> idea that all Jews are responsible for one ano<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

The JDC Archives document <strong>the</strong> operations and activities of <strong>the</strong> organization<br />

s<strong>in</strong>ce 1914 <strong>in</strong> both text and photographic images. The material available is<br />

utilized by students and researchers of <strong>Jewish</strong> history <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> 20th century.<br />

The Archives hold collections about adm<strong>in</strong>istration, overseas adm<strong>in</strong>istration,<br />

organization, and <strong>the</strong> various areas of work. They also conta<strong>in</strong> country files for<br />

<strong>the</strong> USSR, Switzerland, Rumania, Lithuania, Germany, France, England,<br />

Czechoslovakia, Ch<strong>in</strong>a, and Austria.<br />
