The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of <strong>the</strong> American <strong>Jewish</strong> Archives is committed to<br />

preserv<strong>in</strong>g a documentary heritage of <strong>the</strong> religious, organizational, economic,<br />

cultural, personal, social and family life of American Jewry.<br />

The American <strong>Jewish</strong> Archives hold numerous articles, records, documents, and<br />

letters that relate to efforts of American <strong>Jewish</strong> (and some Zionist) <strong>in</strong>dividuals,<br />

congregations, and aid societies/committees <strong>in</strong> assist<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Jewish</strong> refugees <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

immigration attempts. These hold<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong>clude <strong>the</strong> papers of such important<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividuals as Felix Warburg, a New York philanthropist and <strong>Jewish</strong> communal<br />

leader, and Rabbi Julian Morgenstern, a president of Hebrew Union College who<br />

describes efforts to rescue European <strong>Jewish</strong> <strong>in</strong>tellectuals and aid o<strong>the</strong>r refugees.<br />

The archive also conta<strong>in</strong>s a collection of 35 videotaped oral history <strong>in</strong>terviews<br />

with <strong>Holocaust</strong> survivors, a collection of unpublished survivors’ memoirs, and <strong>the</strong><br />

records of Project Eternity (oral history <strong>in</strong>terviews with survivors liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

C<strong>in</strong>c<strong>in</strong>nati).<br />

The Klau Library holds a large number of yizkor books (number<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

hundreds) as well as microfilm copies of 368 titles <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hebrew University<br />

Contemporary Jewry Oral History Collection: Part II, World War II, <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Holocaust</strong>, Resistance, and Rescue.<br />

Ohio State University<br />

The Rare Books division of <strong>the</strong> library holds a collection of over 700 yizkor<br />

books <strong>in</strong> Hebrew, Yiddish, and English, and it cont<strong>in</strong>ues to purchase books and<br />

update <strong>the</strong> collection.<br />

Ohio University<br />

The personal papers of <strong>the</strong> foreign correspondent Victor H. Bernste<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>clude<br />

eight scrapbooks, filled primarily with clipp<strong>in</strong>gs of his own articles perta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g to<br />

<strong>the</strong> prewar persecution of Jews, <strong>the</strong> liberation of <strong>the</strong> concentration camps, etc.,<br />

and memorabilia such as a newsletter written by concentration camp survivors.<br />

Western Reserve Historical Society<br />

The library holds two relevant collections: “Ayduth Lachayim – Witness<br />

to Life,” a manuscript document<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> experiences of 178 <strong>Holocaust</strong><br />

survivors who presently reside <strong>in</strong> Cleveland, Ohio, as well as <strong>the</strong> records<br />

of <strong>the</strong> American <strong>Jewish</strong> Committee <strong>Holocaust</strong> Project, which encompasses<br />

<strong>the</strong> transcripts of <strong>in</strong>terviews with 23 <strong>Holocaust</strong> survivors resid<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

Nor<strong>the</strong>ast Ohio. Copies of <strong>the</strong> AJC <strong>Holocaust</strong> Project transcripts are stored<br />

at <strong>the</strong> William E. Wiener Oral History Library of <strong>the</strong> American <strong>Jewish</strong><br />

Committee <strong>in</strong> New York, and excerpts of <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>terviews were published <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> 1981 Voices of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Holocaust</strong>, ed. Sylvia Rothchild.<br />
