The mission of <strong>the</strong> Sephardic Heritage Center is to preserve and document <strong>the</strong><br />

rich history and culture of <strong>the</strong> Sephardic community’s traditions and values. In<br />

order to achieve this, <strong>the</strong> Sephardic Heritage Center Archives collects all those<br />

materials that best document <strong>the</strong>se communities.<br />

The Sephardic Heritage Center Archives conta<strong>in</strong> a collection of oral history tapes<br />

of <strong>Jewish</strong> Syrian immigrants to Brooklyn, relat<strong>in</strong>g to remembrances of World<br />

War II and <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>Holocaust</strong> and antisemitism.<br />

The German Intellectual Emigré Collection is comprised of over 90<br />

groups (approximately 750 cubic feet) of personal papers, organizational<br />

records, tape record<strong>in</strong>gs, photographs, and related research materials<br />

document<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> German <strong>in</strong>tellectual exodus of <strong>the</strong> 1930s and 1940s. It<br />

focuses on <strong>the</strong> careers and accomplishments of social scientists<br />

(economists, sociologists, anthropologists, and political scientists),<br />

humanists (historians, philosophers, s<strong>in</strong>ologists, art historians, and<br />

musicologists), writers (novelists, poets, journalists, critics, political<br />

writers, and publishers), creative artists (composers, musical performers,<br />

and artists), and o<strong>the</strong>rs. One of <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>cipal focal po<strong>in</strong>ts of <strong>the</strong> German<br />

Intellectual Emigré Collection is papers of former faculty members at <strong>the</strong><br />

“University <strong>in</strong> Exile,” later <strong>the</strong> Graduate Faculty of Political and Social<br />

Science of <strong>the</strong> New School for Social Research (New York City), which is<br />

now <strong>the</strong> New School University <strong>in</strong> New York City.<br />
