The Leo Baeck Institute, devoted to <strong>the</strong> study of <strong>the</strong> history and <strong>the</strong> culture of<br />
German-speak<strong>in</strong>g Jewry, houses much relevant material, such as <strong>the</strong> Austrian<br />
Heritage Collection, a program whose specific goal is to document <strong>the</strong> history of<br />
Austrian-<strong>Jewish</strong> émigrés who fled to <strong>the</strong> USA dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Nazi years. A unique<br />
collection of nearly 1300 memoirs offers rare <strong>in</strong>sights <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> lives of German<br />
Jews from all walks of life from 1790 to <strong>the</strong> post-war era, and thus conta<strong>in</strong>s works<br />
pert<strong>in</strong>ent to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Holocaust</strong>. Many of <strong>the</strong> library’s volumes were salvaged from<br />
