Ist Ihnen die Pionierrolle wichtig?
Erster zu sein führt, unweigerlich zu einem neuen Ergebnis und
damit verbunden zu einer Offenbarung, die für weitere Entwicklungen
nützlich ist. Eigentlich sollte jeder in seinem Leben ständig die
Augen offenhalten, um in irgendeiner Form Pionier zu werden.
Welche Rolle spielen die ökologischen Aspekte bei Ihren Projekten?
Das Solarflugzeug-Projekt steht ganz im Dienste der Umwelt, mit dem
Ziel, das riesige Potenzial an erneuerbaren Energien aufzuzeigen und
die Öffentlichkeit für wirtschaftlich nützliche und nachhaltige Energie-
Entwicklungstechnologien zu begeistern. Eine solche Energieförderung
zerstört die Umwelt nicht und erlaubt der Menschheit
trotzdem eine gleichwertige Lebensqualität. Ich möchte aufzeigen,
dass nur ein Wechsel unseres gegenwärtigen Umgangs mit Konsum,
Produktion und Luftverschmutzung auf Dauer rentabel sein kann.
Können wir dereinst auch Rekorde von Ihren Kindern erwarten?
Wir werden sehen. Meine Töchter Estelle, Oriane und Solange sind erst
im Teenageralter und haben sich noch in keine spezifische Richtung
entwickelt.

Abenteurer und Wissenschaftler
Bertrand Piccard, 1958 in Lausanne geboren, zählte bereits mit 16
Jahren zu den europäischen Deltaflug-Pionieren. Er war Europameister
im Kunstfliegen und überquerte als erster die Alpen im
Ultraleichtflugzeug. Piccard studierte Medizin, spezialisierte sich auf
Psychiatrie und führt eine Praxis in Lausanne. Mit Vorträgen zeigt
er die Synergien zwischen seinem Ballonflug und Kompetenzentwicklung
sowie Problembewältigung auf.
Adventurer and scientist
Bertrand Piccard, born in 1958 in Lausanne, belonged to the European
delta wing pioneers at just 16 years of age. He was European
Champion in hang-glider acrobatics and was the first to cross the Alps
in a microlight. Piccard studied medicine, specialised in psychiatry and
opened a practice in Lausanne. He holds lectures highlighting the
synergies between his balloon flight and competence development,
as well as problem solving.

I wanted to study the human being with the
aim of being able to command nature and
life better.
As an adventurer and family man are you
sometimes torn between the two?
My family has always been involved in my
adventures – my wife Michèle was even a
member of the balloon team. Of course, fear
sometimes gets the better of my wife and
children, however they ultimately share the
experiences with me, and these experiences
will be remembered forever.
Is it important to you to be a pioneer?
Being the first to achieve something in-
evitably leads to a new experience and an
associated revelation that is valuable for further
development. I believe that everyone should
continuously keep their eyes open in life in order
to become a pioneer in some shape or form.
What role do ecological aspects play in your
projects?
The solar flight project solely serves the
environment, with the objective of highlighting
the potential of renewable energies and
awaking enthusiasm among the public for
economically valuable and sustainable energy
development technologies. Utilising such
energy sources does not lead to the destruction
of the environment, but instead
grants humanity a homogenous quality of
life. I want to demonstrate that a single shift
in our current attitudes towards consumption,
production and air pollution can prove profitable
in the long run.
Can we someday expect records from your
children?
We’ll see. My daughters Estelle, Oriane and
Solange are still teenagers, and have yet to
choose their paths in life.
