“Home of the Hawks” Derrell Brown, Principal<br />
The MMS dance team competed in 2 state-level<br />
competitions during January. At one of them, the<br />
team placed 2 nd with their Hip Hop routine and<br />
1 st with their Pom routine. At the other, they<br />
finished 1 st in Hip Hop (out of 8 teams) and 4 th in<br />
Pom (scoring 3.25 points away from 1 st ). The<br />
dancers shown in the picture are 7 th and 8th<br />
graders. Their names are as follows: Emry<br />
Summerville, Grace Pendergrass, Lauren Jones,<br />
Sydney King, Kaleigha Boddie, Ashlyn Wherry,<br />
Emma O’Brien, Jayla Jones, Heather Curtis, and<br />
Erin Bauermeister. You could watch other<br />

<strong>Congratulations</strong> <strong>to</strong> the Monrovia Middle School Scholars' Bowl<br />
team for their 1 st place win at the Deep South Challenge held at<br />
the LAMP School in Montgomery February 16 th . The Deep<br />
South Challenge is a regional competition for 6 th -9 th grade<br />
students from schools in Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama,<br />
Louisiana, and Georgia. Monrovia Middle is now the two-time<br />
back-<strong>to</strong>-back champions of this 5 state <strong>to</strong>urnament. In addition,<br />
it has made our school a national qualifier for the National<br />
Academic Challenge held in New Orleans, Chicago, or<br />
Washing<strong>to</strong>n, DC. at the end of the school year. Once again,<br />
congratulations <strong>to</strong> the Scholars' Bowl team members on their<br />
as<strong>to</strong>unding accomplishment at LAMP.<br />
The Monrovia Middle School Scholars' Bowl team also won 1 st<br />
place win at Lamp High School at the Lamp Middle School<br />
Invitational in Montgomery on January 5 th . This competition<br />
was a 6 th -9 th grade competition that qualified the team as a<br />
National Qualifier for the National Academic Challenge. This is<br />
the first time that Monrovia has won this particular <strong>to</strong>urnament<br />
and it is an exceptional achievement for the team. The team<br />
placed second at the ASCA District Competition held at Challenger Middle School on January 23rd. This<br />
qualified our Scholars' Bowl team as a State Finalist team.
