The New Market 5th Grade ACE Class, along with their teacher, Cheryl Jenkins, went on a field trip<br />
<strong>to</strong> Dauphin Island, February 15 th -18 th . They studied about the wetlands, dissected squid, visited and<br />
got stuck in the salt marsh, had plank<strong>to</strong>n races, collected specimens from the bay (including a cone<br />
head jelly fish), and learned of the different layers of a beach!<br />
Two New Market students were chosen <strong>to</strong> have their work displayed this month at the Huntsville<br />
Museum of Art in honor of Youth Art Month: Jaylen Hill (3 rd Grade) and Jenna McManes (2 nd<br />
Grade).<br />
New Market students and staff celebrated Read Across America Week with many fun reading related<br />
activities. We created vocabulary hats, dressed up like our dads, wore pajamas <strong>to</strong> school and<br />
participated in the AR “Read the Most From Coast <strong>to</strong> Coast” Challenge, and enjoyed many guest<br />
readers. Buckhorn High School’s Leadership Club, Spanish Club, and football players read <strong>to</strong> many of<br />
the classes.<br />
The New Market School Archery Team has been having a very successful season so far. Last week,<br />
they were named Regional Champions and that au<strong>to</strong>matically qualifies them for the State Tournament<br />
<strong>to</strong> be held on April 4 th . Individual winners were: Girl Winners: 1 Lauren Foster, 2 Abby Gipson, and<br />
3 Breanna Mason. Boy Winners were: 1 Jake Parr and 2 Hayden O'Barr.
