Star Student - Star Student Jasari Juarez selected Mr.<br />

Doug Page <strong>to</strong> share this special luncheon with him.<br />

Jasari and Mr. Page were chauffeured limo style and<br />

taken <strong>to</strong> Chili’s for a delectable lunch. Lunch was<br />

compliments of Flint River Baptist Church.<br />

We’re Learning Spanish – Students in the after school<br />

care program are learning Spanish with Rosetta S<strong>to</strong>ne.<br />

Students are learning basic Spanish, conversational skills,<br />

introductions and greetings, and simple questions and<br />

answers.<br />

Law Day Poster Competition - Fifth grade students created Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. posters for the<br />

Law Day Poster Competition. This competition is sponsored by The Alabama State Bar. Students read<br />

the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry <strong>to</strong> prepare their minds for the Civil and Human Rights that Dr.<br />

King fought <strong>to</strong> protect. Each student chose a quote by Dr. King that became the theme for their poster.<br />

Winners will be announced in May.<br />

ACE Students Discover Wetlands –February<br />

15 th – 18 th , the 5 th grade ACE Class, along with<br />

their teacher, Cheryl Jenkins, went on a Field<br />

Trip <strong>to</strong> the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. They spent<br />

the entire weekend immersed in the study of<br />

Wetlands. The best activities were the<br />

dissection of a squid and walking in the salt<br />

marsh.<br />

Seuss Celebration – Dr. Seuss had an amazing<br />

week of celebration in “Bulldog Country.”<br />

Students were read highlighted books by faculty<br />

and staff each morning. Mooney Monday<br />

kicked off the event and students were served<br />

Moon Pies. Hats were worn on Top Hat Tuesday and silly socks on Wacky Wednesday. T-shirts from<br />

places around the world were seen Theodore Thursday. Friday was overflowing with fun: Green eggs and<br />

ham for breakfast, Seuss trivia, Reading the Most Coast <strong>to</strong> Coast, partner reading across grade levels, and<br />

birthday cake passed out by the Cat in the Hat. Special thanks <strong>to</strong> Mr. Chris Olson, Chattanooga Bakery,<br />

Griner’s, Star Market and Publix for supporting our event.<br />

Jump Rope For Heart – Twenty-four students participated this year and raised $577.75.
