maintenance and battle damage repair. In<br />

providing maritime logistic support, FLS<br />

capabilities range from very austere to near<br />

those of an ALSS, including a supporting<br />

seaport.<br />

c. ALSS and/or FLS Concept of<br />

Operation. In a crisis response scenario, the<br />

ALSS would direct and coordinate the flow<br />

of passengers, mail, and cargo through an area<br />

of responsibility. The ALSS would have full<br />

capability <strong>for</strong> temporary storage,<br />

consolidation, and transfer of supplies, as well<br />

as messing and berthing <strong>for</strong> personnel<br />

transiting into and out of the theater. In times<br />

of heightened logistics requirements, the<br />

ALSS could coordinate various FLS<br />

operations and their direct freight <strong>for</strong>warding<br />

activity, as well as provide support <strong>for</strong> shorebased<br />

aviation units, Fleet Hospitals, Naval<br />

Mobile Construction Battalions, and other<br />

shore-based logistics units.<br />
