for special equipment for accessing the upper deck to facilitate emergency evacuati<strong>on</strong> of injured or<br />

handicapped pers<strong>on</strong>s. Studies <strong>on</strong> the above issues are in progress.<br />

4.2.1.1.4 Key issues associated with the introducti<strong>on</strong> of <strong>NLA</strong> will be to:<br />

a) provide aircraft informati<strong>on</strong> and briefing before the first flight, including a crash chart<br />

and dimensi<strong>on</strong>al drawings;<br />

b) provide briefing and training <strong>on</strong> doors and systems;<br />

c) revise emergency plans;<br />

d) c<strong>on</strong>duct a task analysis for staffing; and<br />

e) upgrade services to meet Category 10 requirements.<br />

4.2.1.2 Critical c<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

4.2.1.2.1 The following critical c<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong>s will need to be addressed (see Airport Services Manual,<br />

Doc 9137, Part 7):<br />

a) assessment and testing of the aerodrome emergency plan in order to be able to resp<strong>on</strong>d<br />

to an emergency within a distance of 1000 m from the threshold of each operati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

runway or within the aerodrome boundary;<br />

b) potential for simulati<strong>on</strong> to assist in testing the revised plan (e.g. desk top computer<br />

based etc);<br />

c) medical requirements at an aerodrome commensurate with the number of passengers <strong>on</strong><br />

board;<br />

d) capacity of terminal building facilities to handle increased numbers of friends and<br />

relatives;<br />

e) scene management to take account of additi<strong>on</strong>al passenger numbers;<br />

f) additi<strong>on</strong>al transportati<strong>on</strong> needs;<br />

g) liais<strong>on</strong> with local hospitals so that they can cope with the potential increase in<br />

casualties;<br />

h) the implicati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>NLA</strong>-specific incidents <strong>on</strong> the ramp/stand or parking areas;<br />

i) implicati<strong>on</strong>s of any hazardous materials used in the specific aircraft's c<strong>on</strong>structi<strong>on</strong>, and<br />

an analysis should be c<strong>on</strong>ducted to ensure safe working practices; and<br />

j) aircraft recovery plan will need updating for significantly larger aircraft.
