text; on <strong>the</strong> headdress <strong>of</strong> both bird-men; on bracelets, neck-<br />

lace, earplugs, and headdress <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> figure seated on <strong>the</strong> jag-<br />

uar skin throne; and on <strong>the</strong> headdress <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r enthroned<br />

figure. The blue was too fragmentary to type accurately: <strong>the</strong><br />

best approximation is 10BG-7/4. The vessel’s interior is<br />

close to 2/5YP-5/10, 6/10.<br />

THE GLYPHS<br />

The style <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> glyphs is <strong>the</strong> same as found on <strong>the</strong><br />

monuments and some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> better painted pots at <strong>Tikal</strong> and is<br />

different from that <strong>of</strong> those on <strong>the</strong> “dancing man” pot, which<br />

is closer to <strong>the</strong> codex style.<br />

The Upper Band <strong>of</strong> Glyphs<br />

Within <strong>the</strong> upper bend, some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> glyphs are painted<br />

red with two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> glyphs colored blue (at least one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

personified uinals and possibly <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r, it being difficult<br />

to tell from <strong>the</strong> photographs). Numbering <strong>the</strong> glyphs on <strong>the</strong><br />

drawing, from left to right, <strong>the</strong> red painted glyphs are: 3,<br />

4, 7, 10, 13, 14.<br />

The author is not a glyph specialist and <strong>the</strong> glyphs<br />

have not yet been studied by Dr. Satterthwaite and Chris<br />

Jones, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Tikal</strong> experts on this subject. A few <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong><br />

writer has been able to identify using Thompson’s two catalogs,<br />

but <strong>the</strong>re are several glyphs <strong>the</strong> author has not been<br />

able to identify. As to <strong>the</strong>ir meaning and relation to texts
