6. Nature of Remedy<br />

type, see Item 5b), GAF will pay <strong>the</strong> full reasonable cost of labor to repair or recover <strong>the</strong><br />

defective shingles (exclusive of underlayment, metal work or flashings) and will provide<br />

replacement shingles. After <strong>the</strong> first 3, 5 or 10 year period, GAF will contribute a pro-rated<br />

amount or, at GAF’s sole option, provide replacement shingles.<br />

For Algae Discoloration: During <strong>the</strong> first year, GAF will contribute ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> cost of<br />

cleaning shingles or repairing or replacing shingles up to a maximum of <strong>the</strong> original<br />

installed cost of <strong>the</strong> affected shingles. For <strong>the</strong> next 6 years for Sentinel and for <strong>the</strong> next 9<br />

years for <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r GAF shingles, GAF’s maximum contribution will be reduced <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

amount of use received.<br />

Georgia-Pacific is liable for cost to repair or replace defectively manufactured shingles.<br />

For algae resistant shingles, Georgia-Pacific's liability shall be to pay <strong>the</strong> reasonable cost<br />

of repair or replacement subject to pro-rating. During <strong>the</strong> initial three- or five-year period<br />

(depending upon <strong>the</strong> type of shingle), <strong>the</strong> maximum repair or replacement cost to<br />

Georgia-Pacific shall be <strong>the</strong> replacement cost of those shingles exhibiting discoloration<br />

due to algae, including replacement installation costs. For <strong>the</strong> remainder of <strong>the</strong> warranty,<br />

<strong>the</strong> maximum repair or replacement cost to Georgia-Pacific shall be <strong>the</strong> replacement cost<br />

of those shingles exhibiting discoloration, in proportion to <strong>the</strong> unexpired warranty period,<br />

excluding all installation costs.<br />

instructions, Globe warrants that <strong>the</strong> shingles will be free from manufacturing defects.<br />

Globe shingles that contain 3M Algae Block (Copper Mountain Shadow and ProSeal 30<br />

Rx) are warranted against discoloration or staining due to algae growth.<br />

repair or replace any shingles proven to contain manufacturing defects which have<br />

resulted in leaks during <strong>the</strong> first 5 years. After 5 years, Globe’s maximum liability shall be<br />

a prorated amount of <strong>the</strong> reasonable replacement material cost only.<br />

For Algae Resistance (Copper Mountain Shadow, ProSeal 30 Rx): In <strong>the</strong> first year, <strong>the</strong> maximum<br />

repair or replacement cost shall be <strong>the</strong> original cost of those shingles exhibiting discoloration due to<br />

algae growth, including <strong>the</strong> original installation cost. During years two (2) through ten (10), a<br />

prorated portion of <strong>the</strong> maximum repair or replacement cost shall be <strong>the</strong> original cost of those<br />

shingles exhibiting discoloration, excluding installation costs. From years eleven (11) through <strong>the</strong><br />

end of <strong>the</strong> specific shingle’s warranty, Globe’s maximum liability will be computed <strong>by</strong> using <strong>the</strong><br />

original purchase price of <strong>the</strong> Globe algae resistant shingles minus <strong>the</strong> purchase price of <strong>the</strong><br />

comparable Globe non-algae resistant shingle times <strong>the</strong> number of years since installation divided <strong>by</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> length of <strong>the</strong> specific shingle’s warranty.<br />
