Ebony Family.<br />

As regards the fruit at least, there are two quite well-marked varieties, in one of<br />

which the fruit ripens nearly a month earlier, is reddish, especially within, and<br />

mealy, rendering it very pleasant. In the other later-maturing kind, the frnit, be-<br />

sides being larger, is not reddened or mealy, and is far less palatable. Last half of<br />

May ; fruit, October and November.
