SLANDER OF THE DEAD.<br />

It is bad enough to coin money out of human grief, and<br />

yearning for departed loved ones. But when it <strong>com</strong>es to the<br />

fraudulent exploitation, lasting for years, of the name of an hon- -<br />

ored gentleman, it is a pity that there could not be action in the<br />

courts for posthumous slander.<br />

The outrageous manipulation of the portrait of the late Rev.<br />

Kemper Bocock, making him, by process of uniting his pictured<br />

head to the pictured bodies of other men, do all sorts of things<br />

undignified and foreign to his nature, was fully exposed in the<br />

last number of the Proceedings, being Vol. XIII, Part 2.<br />

As an act of justice to his memory, we re-print two letters<br />

written to the New York Tribune, one by Mr. Bocock's sister,<br />

the other by Bishop Winchester.<br />
