Staff Development was one of the aspects taken
up, including Values Formation, Conduct to
Be Observed in the Office and Mentoring and
Skills Enhancement.
The participants were guided into Calibration, or
the classification of the Barangays where JSF
has worked and is working now according to
their need for continuing assistance. Some
hard decisions had to be taken regarding which
of the barangays are to be “prioritized” while the
rest will be assisted and monitored as needed.
The presence of IPs in these barangays was
given importance.
The expansion of the Marketing Unit into
Social Enterprise, as mentioned under
Organization was an offshoot of the strategic
planning. Program Coordinators for Agri and
Governance will be incorporated with Social
Enterprise while maintaining their identity. But
given the approach of a more holistic intervention
in the communities with the three components
working together, the extensionist will assume a
generalist approach, working in the three
components.
MACOFED will no longer form part of a future
JSF project since they could be an independent
federation having functioned as such for nine
years.
There is need to work on the strategies: what to
continue doing, what to stop doing and to initiate
doing. What needs to be done in the field with the
farmers. Coordinated and integrated approach in
the barangays. This is what was taken up during
the ROADMAPPING SESSIONS.
The Executive Director or INTERED, Ms.
Carmen Aragonés visited the Foundation in the
early part of the year. She was happy to know
about the participatory development approach of
JSFand that the Indigenous People (IPs)
involved in the AECID project are represented in
the Barangay Council dring discussions
regarding the Barangay Development Plan. In
the process, they were consulted regarding their
customary laws and their agricultural practices.
Thus the IPs have been empowered by the JSF
technicians.
Ms. Aitziber Barrueta has come to Davao several
times to monitor the implementation of the AECID
Project entitled “Sustainable Development and
Environmental Care in Rural Communities,
Prioritizing on Indigenous Peoples, Philippines”

Prioritariamente Indígenas, en Davao
–MINDANAO)
Likewise the supervisor of LWR Project
“Upscaling Barangay and Marketing (UpBarMa)
Development Project” Phase II which ended in
August has come to JSF in relation to the Project.
An external evaluator came to evaluate the
project and was frankly impressed.
