Since Agriculture is the main source of income in
New Corella, Sustainable agriculture is one of the
major thrusts of the LGU as such farmers are
trained and encouraged to adopt chemical-free
and environment-friendly agricultural
technology. The adoption of sustainable
agriculture ensures lower input capital, better
health due to chemical-free practices, and
improves soil fertility. Furthermore, in response to
the growing interest for organic farming and
leveraging on the abundance of guano deposits,
a mixing plant enterprise producing organic
fertilizers was established by the LGU.
On the other hand, a scheme to address the
capital needs of the poor families, lending and
crop production financing schemes were also
established and made available to women and
farmers at low-interest rate along with a
marketing and organizing skills training.
Through the concerted effort of various
stakeholders, the municipality established and
institutionalize a regular market day or “Tabo”
every Sunday to provide farmers opportunity the
to market their produce.
The HEALTH CARE FINANCING program is
designed to address the financial needs of
families which require hospitalization or
medication. Barangays Poblacion and
Mambing are the pilot implementers of which
the former have 104 members and the latter have
39 members.
To sustain the gains of SIAD, the barangay
governments created the Barangay Technical
Working Group (BTWG) to attend to the SIAD
operation. Institutional mechanism were crafted
such Barangay ordinances and resolutions in
support of SIAD.
One of the hindering factors for the smooth and
easy facilitation of SIAD is the indifference and
skepticism of some municipal officials towards
the process. The tedious, slow and intricate
processes make it time-consuming for local
volunteers which lessens their livelihood
productivity, among others.
On one hand, the facilitating factor that seals the
commitment of the local leaders is the support of
IPHC and AHI to the cause of people
empowerments and participatory governance
and the presence fund support from various
agencies, and the constant in the
commitment of volunteers.
