224. — Autigoiius, Ijy way of Kulioea, lands his armj near the Isthmus, while Cleonieiies was occupied with the siege of Sicyon.<br />
Cleomenes raises the siege and pitches his camp near the Isthnuis, then hastens to defend Corinth.<br />
No sooner is he engaged there than Aratus gains the assistance of a party in Argos to place the Lacednemonian<br />
garrison there in a state of siege. Cleomenes hastens to Argos, leaving Corinth iii the hands of Antigonus.<br />
The Achaeans, under Timoxenus their general, surprise and seize Argos. Cleomenes, arriving too late, retreats to<br />
Mantinea, and theuce to Sparta.<br />
Antigonus advances into the Pelopoiinese, and after ejecting the ganisons in the territories of Aegys and lielmina,<br />
and putting them under Megalopolis, goes to Aegium to attend tlie meeting of the Achaean League, where he is<br />
appointed general.<br />
223.—Antigonus breaks up his camp and goes on the march. He invests anil captures Tegea, carries Orohomenus by storm,<br />
captures .Mantinea, and then, passing through Heraea and Thclpusa, which voluntarily surrender, proceeds to<br />
Aegium to attend a meeting of the League. His Macedonian soldiers he sends home to winter.<br />
Cleomenes takes Megalopolis. Antigonus spends the winter at Argos.<br />
222. —Cleomenes leads his arm}' into Argive territory. Having terrified his enemies, and inspired courage in his own army,<br />
he returns home unmolested.<br />

The summer having now come, the Macedonian and Achaean soldiers assemble from their<br />
arrive from lioeotia, Acarnania, &c. , and take up position at Sellasia.<br />
