Dismantling and Fitting of Front Fork<br />

Please note:<br />

When carrying out repair work on the front <strong>for</strong>k, proceed as<br />

explained on page 43 "Removing and Refitting the front <strong>for</strong>k",<br />

paragraphs 1 to 14, being followed by:<br />

1. Remove shock-absorbers from front <strong>for</strong>k.<br />

2. Unscrew and remove oil drain screw (SW 14) 73/4 and take off<br />

outer tube 73/3.<br />

3. Take off bellows portion.<br />

4. Unscrew and undo oil filler screw 73/1 (SW 17) and remove<br />

pressure springs 73/2.<br />

5. Screw outer pressure springs 73/2 off spring holder; take out<br />

interior pressure spring.<br />

6. For reassembly, reverse above procedure.<br />

Please note:<br />

When fitting the bellows portion, make sure that the smaller<br />

diameter is pulled over the outer tube.<br />

The oil filling in the front <strong>for</strong>k amounts to 30 cc. per leg of good<br />

engine oil such as Mobiloil A (SAE 30).<br />

When released, the outer pressure spring has an overall length<br />

of 328 ± 2 mm. At a pretension of 50 mm the spring must show<br />

a load of P = 35.5 kg.<br />

When released, the inner pressure spring has an overall length<br />

of 302 ± 2 mm. At a pretension of 50 mm the Spring must show<br />

a load of P = 12.0 kg.<br />

Removing and Fitting of Frame<br />

and Fork Ball Races<br />

Please note:<br />

I f frame and <strong>for</strong>k ball races are to be changed, remove front<br />

<strong>for</strong>k, as explained on page 43, paragraphs 1 to 13.<br />

1. Using a punch 74/2, remove frame races 74/1 by tapping from<br />

top and bottom respectively.<br />

Please note:<br />

Remove the races by tapping uni<strong>for</strong>mly on the whole circumference<br />

of the races. By tapping on but one spot, the resulting<br />

tilting effect might de<strong>for</strong>m the tube and, when refitting the races,<br />

they might no longer be a perfect fit.<br />

2. Clean the frame tube. Press the frame races into the frame tube,<br />

perhaps also by using a wooden punch and a light hammer.<br />

3. Remove <strong>for</strong>k race on front <strong>for</strong>k by using a special chisel and a<br />

li ght hammer. Apply chisel alternately to both grooves.<br />

4. If necessary, remove burr from front piece (race support).<br />

5. Using a tube, press <strong>for</strong>k race onto front <strong>for</strong>k, or use a light<br />

hammer.<br />

6. Fit front <strong>for</strong>k as explained on page 43, paragraph 14.<br />
