atmosphere. As many as 37.6% preferred to remain silent about the events of Work Place<br />

Harassment (WPH). Only 2% to 3% were ready to complain against the assailant. 12.39%<br />

were of the opini<strong>on</strong> that Government should appoint inspectors to keep a check <strong>on</strong> WPH.<br />

Regarding wage differences, 37.6% LLLWs were unaware about the difference in wages<br />

between men and women. 15.9% women received equal wages. Only 26% of LLLWs were<br />

clearly aware that they received lower wages. The illiterate landless labourer women (LLLW)<br />

were found to be ignorant about various Government efforts to emancipate them. 70% of<br />

the LLLWs were in favour of reservati<strong>on</strong> for women in various sectors of work; 5.9%<br />

resp<strong>on</strong>dents preferred welfare schemes; and <strong>on</strong>ly 3 resp<strong>on</strong>dents had heard about any NGOs<br />

working for them. To improve the status of LLLWs suggesti<strong>on</strong>s offered to Government<br />

were: creating cells to check work place harassment (WPH); providing subsidies to LLLWs;<br />

vocati<strong>on</strong>al training programmes; gender sensitizati<strong>on</strong>; reservati<strong>on</strong> for women in Class I and<br />

Class II Government jobs; making educati<strong>on</strong> free and compulsory for children; and<br />

empowering village panchayats to develop various schemes for LLLWs.
