My sincere thanks to my supervisor Prof. Zeev Wiesman, who gave me both
opportunity and support to study for my PhD degree in Israel. His advice, constant
encouragement, suggestion, and guidelines during the whole course of my study will
accompany me all my life. The experience I gained under his supervision is important not
only scientifically, but also personally. He provided encouragement, sound advice, and
good company throughout all my studies. I would have been lost without him.
I am very grateful to Dr. Leah Tzor for her advice and help for the fungal work, Dr.
Zhana Avramovich for her advice and technical help for the mosquito experiments, Dr.
Naomi Ben-Dom for her advice and help for cuticle penetration experiments, and Dr,
Steven Maranz for his advice, encouragement, and continued help during the whole
period of my study.
I would like to acknowledge Mr. Yigal Gilboa and Prof. Jerzy W. Jaroszewski for
their valuable assistance in LC-MS and NMR analysis and to Ms Edna Oxman for
English editing. I am also grateful to the personnel of Kibbutz Samar for maintaining the
Balanites aegyptiaca plants.
Thanks to all members of the Phyto-lipid Biotechnology Laboratory and the Institute
for Applied Research of the University for providing a homely atmosphere during whole
period of my study. Special thanks to Mr. Sebastian Wiesswien for his valuable help on
my work. My sincere thanks also go to Mr. Vinod Saharan, Ms Mariana Hazanovsky, Ms
Olga Gutars, and Ms Efrat Sharvit who in various ways helped to complete this work.
Thanks to all my native friends for their support and comradeship: I am grateful to
Roshan, Kalpana, Uddab, Madhav, Pushkar, and Anil for providing company and
suggestions to me during the period of my study. It is my pleasure to thank sister Avital
Shimron for her kind cooperation during the whole period of my stay in Israel.
Lastly, and most importantly, I am very grateful to my mother, wife Gita, son
Kshiteez, daughter Asmita, and brothers and sisters in Nepal for their love and emotional
and moral support during this chapter of life. To them I dedicate this dissertation.
