CLINICAL ACTIVITIES
Narda D. Croughwell, CRNA
worked very hard this last year and are
still working very hard to accomplish
tasks at hand that will help us meet the
challenges of 2001. They should all
be commended for their efforts. Again
we end the year with guarded but optimistic
anticipation of things to come.

Cynthia R. Black, CRNA serves on
the Public Relations Committee and
Resolutions Committee for the AANA.
Lisa J. Schwetschenau, CRNA, MNA
was elected Secretary for the NCANA
and District 1.
Donald R. Moede, CRNA, MSN and
Leslie A. Cline, CRNA, MSN were elected
as District 1 Educational Directors.
Shelley T. Hilliard, BSN, CRNA
was elected District 1 Director.
James M. Temo, CRNA, MSN,
M.B.A. was named Assistant Director
of Duke’s School of Nurse Anesthesia
Program beginning January, 2001.
Meredith L. Muncy, CRNA, MHS
was named Clinical Coordinator for
Duke's School of Nurse Anesthesia
beginning January, 2001.
Janet E. Goral, BSN, CRNA is still
instrumental in the on-going latex safe
initiative for the Children’s Health
Center.
Deborah J. Ferrero, CRNA, MS,
MSN is working with Dr. T.J. Gan on
research to determine whether the
active metabolites of the nondepolorizer
rapacuronium effect the duration of
other nondepolorizers. Deborah is also
our liaison to Abbott Laboratory's preceptor
program.
Donald R. Moede, CRNA, MSN,
Frances R. Smith, CRNA and Jeanne M.
Crabtree, CRNA were the Consultants/
Trainers for the new automated anesthesia
record, SATURN, and assisted in
the training of the anesthesia providers
at Duke. Don also redesigned the manual
anesthesia record.
Carleen E. Bagnall, BSN, CRNA
received the Medical Student Recognition
Award, Department of
Anesthesiology.
Janet M. Hall, CRNA submitted an
abstract at the academic evening and
presented a poster on “Forane vs.
Propofol Anesthesia: Comparison of
PONV in Pediatric Patients Undergoing
Radiofrequency Ablation.”
David H. Gleason, CRNA, BHS presented
at the Sixth World Congress for
Nurse Anesthetists in August. His presentations
were on “PONV Strategies for
Prevention” and “Physiology of Pain"
David is also a member of the Abbott
CRNA advisory board.
Russell T. Giesler, BSN, CRNA was
selected Chair of the Clinical Lead
Committee.
Maurice L. Begin, CRNA is working
with ORBIS in China, Burma and India,
to name a few sites, delivering quality
anesthesia care to eye patients.

served on the Advisory Committee for
the Duke School of Nurse Anesthesia.
