DIVERS ALERT NETWORK
extended to Cozumel, Mexico. Over
20,000 dive profiles have been collected
in Project Dive Exploration to date.
Membership dollars also supported
a DAN Recompression Chamber
Assistance Program which provided
education and technical support to
recompression chambers in the Caribbean.
Safety seminars and clinics were
held at all major dive shows in North
America and two very successful CME
courses for physicians on diving medicine
were held in the Caribbean.
DAN has grown internationally
since 1991 and active programs are
available through DAN Europe, DAN
Japan, DAN SE Asia/Pacific and DAN
Southern Africa with a further 60,000
members.
DAN has an active industry
Sponsor Program through resorts and
stores (861), corporations (130), clubs
(130), Friends of DAN (474), and Dive
Instructors (4,056).
In July 1997 DAN moved into its
own 27,000 sq. ft. offices and headquarters
at Colony Road in Durham, North
Carolina. The Peter B. Bennett Center
was named by the DAN Board in honor
of the founder of DAN.

When a dive injury is suspected, especially decompression sickness, a physician
can administer a series of tests to check for neurological deficits by observing
strength and reflexes.
Finally, DAN initiated a for profit
subsidiary, DAN Services, Inc., in 1998.
It is wholly owned by DAN and its
mission is:
1. Support DAN in its ability to
improve recreational diving safety and
water related activities.
2 Provide DAN and its members
with services and business opportunities
best provided by a tax-paying,
for-profit corporation.

3. Investigate and develop new
services and business opportunities
to benefit DAN and its members.
One of its projects is to develop
the REM O 2—an oxygen rebreather to
enable the DAN standard oxygen emergency
delivery equipment to be expanded
from 30 minutes to up to six
hours from the same oxygen cylinder.
A second is to develop the DAN oxygen
program for aquatics, i.e. use for swimming
pools, emergencies, ocean lifeguards,
etc.
