POMONA —The Stockton
'"Hie Comedy of
Errors" by the McCarter
Theatre Company of. Princeton
on Thursday, May 10 at
1 p.m. The performance is
open to high school students
made possible by Stockton
State College and by a special
theatre touring grant from the
National Endowment for the
Arts and the New Jersey State
Council on the Arts.
"The Comedy of Errors" is
Shakespeare's earliest,
funniest, most actively
theatrical play, based on
Plautus' farciacal story of two
sets of twins. The appeal of
"The Comedy of Errors" is to
all ages; it is unique among
Shakespeare's comedies in its
pure simplicity. The director
is Ben Levit, McCarter
Theatre's special projects
director, who was Michael
Kahn's assistant at the
American Shakespeare
Theatre in Stratford, which
Kahn directed for eight years.
McCarter Theatre, under
the skillful direction of Kahn,
has built a reputation as one
of - America's foremost
regional theatres. Recognized
for its quality, professional
productions, the company has
won widespread critical attention
for its broad repertoire
of performances and nas
been featured in numerous
articles in the major New
York and Philadelphia
newspapers and New Jersey
press. The company includes
CAPE MAY COURT
HOUSE—The Cape May
County Park opens its
Children's Nature Center this
week with a wide ranging
display of various aspects of
the natural world.
, Park Naturalist Howard
Stoddard has prevailed upon
various county businessmen
and organizations to donate or
loan items to be placed on
display at the center, and he
has gathered numerous
private collections to further
diversify the attractions.
The Children's Nature
Center is located at the front
of the park (take the first
right turn after you drive in)
near the pond. Among the
displays are a natural looking
wildlife habitat featuring
mounted animals from Cape
Taxidermy and a simulated
rock mineral cave with
florescent rocks from Jim's
Jem Shop.
Bittle's and Zaberer's Shell
Shops donated various
preserved animal specimens,
dune flowers and seashell
the summer season, the May
display will encompass
fishing tackle, lures and other
living specimens that will be
on display, but the traveling
living-nature show is still
available for those groups
that would prefer him to bring
HOUSE — It's dogwood time
in Cape May County.
Ideal spring weather has
touched the Jersey Cape
woodlands, and all up and
down the highways, beautiful
white dogwoods are in full
blossom, giving an unprecedented
splash of color to
the foliage.
The white and occasional
pink dogwoods are set against
a background of greens from
the pines, hollies and laurel
which abound on the Jersey
Cape, and, on the ground,
beautiful woods flowers have
burst into bloom.
be a leisurely ride in the
to see nature coming alive
after a dormant winter. The
colorful dogwoods are expected
to remain in bloom
In addition to the wild
dogwoods which are located
all over the Jersey Cape, and
to the colorful wild flowers
and greenery, the casual offthe-highway
traveler can see
the brilliance of azaleas,
mountain pinks and scores of
other cultivated flowers in the
yards of the well-kept year
round and seasonal homes
which dot the mainland areas.
Wilson.
"Aside from reinforcing the
public's basic right of access
to . its government, DEP's
increased efforts in public
participation will pay big
dividends by attracting ideas
and technical expertise from
the public area. Everyone in
New Jersey will benefit," she
said.
Still to be named is an 18member
volunteer committee
which will advise the Office of
Public Participation and
make recommendations to
public sectors. •.
Wilson said the new policy
will not affect the regular
system of public bearings
which are legally required for
many DEP actions, nor will it
reduce the responsibility of
the Commissioner of Environmental
Protection to
make final decisions on any
departmental action, she
added.
Walker joined DEP in 1975
after serving five years as
executive director of the
Realtors hit state interest rates
The conventional mortgage
market in New Jersey continues
to be at a virtual
standstill and litUe, if any,
relief is in sight according to
Norman Katto, President of
the 17,000- member New
Jersey Association of
Realtors.
Although the New Jersey
General Assembly passed a
bill to raise the usury ceiling
to lO>/i percent last week, this
action is stop gap at best,
according to KaUo.
lenders are now granting
mortgages that are yielding in
the area of 11 to llt& percent.
With a 10M, percent lid, the
state chartered lending institutions
still cannot be
competitive in the mortgage
market," said Kailo.
The bill also includes a
"self-destruct" clause which
states that the ceiling will
return to 9'/i percent effective
January 1,1980.
"Having the rate drop to 9to
percent -the first of the year
would have a devastating
effect on 'the mortgage
market," said KaUo.
The bill as amended will
now return to the Senate
where it is expected to be a
topic of continuing debate.
"It is our sincere hope that
the Senate will act responsibly
and amend the bill to
allow for a competitive usury
rate ceiling," said KaUo.
"The homebuying and selling
public deserves to have this
issue resolved without additional
delay."
