Her role in the state university's 213th anniversary commencement takes on special significance today because she will also be receiving her doctorate in history after a 20-year quest. Mrs. Sidar began her doctoral work in 1959 after receiving her bachelor's degree from Douglas College and her master's from Rutgers. Since that time, she has worked on her dissertation, . taken course work, taught at Douglass and Waynesburg colleges, and reported news for a New Jersey weekly. . She became assistant secretary of Rutgers in 1972 and assumed the head position in 1974, after the retirement of Karl E. Met- zger. She has also balanced her academic and professional life with marriage and motherhood.
