Foreword
The CFMEU is proud to provide members with this
edition of the Joinery and Building Trades Award
2010 which covers workers engaged in the
manufacture of joinery and other building products
throughout Australia.
The Award provides a safety net of minimum wages
and conditions for construction workers in joinery
shops, glass and glazing establishments, shopfitting
establishments, stonemasonry yards or factories
(including work in cemeteries) and prefabricated
building manufacturers. Importantly, the Award is also
the safety net for building trades occupations not included in other modern awards
(for example, maintenance carpenters employed by hotels are covered by this
Award).
Collective agreements can build on the Award to provide improvements in wages
and conditions, but they can also be used by employers to remove important
conditions. It is important that you seek advice and representation from the union
when an agreement is being negotiated – only the union can achieve the best
outcome.
The Award contains conditions fought for and won by workers and their union.
Always insist on your award conditions being respected. Contact your union, the
CFMEU, for advice and assistance.

Rates for your classification. The latest national wage rates will be posted on the
website after updates in July 2010 and in subsequent years, as changes are made.
Remember, always be a financial CFMEU member and ask if your workmates are
union. Together we can build a better industry.
