They have roles that they were playing in their families and in the community before
amputation; their power and status achieved or acquired should be maintained during the
rehabiliation process. This transaction is achieved through cooperation of all the
rehabilitation team members, to ensure that the client is well motivated with full support
of the family, community involvement and community awareness workshops. The
community should be made aware of the rights of the amputees and the support they
3.7 CONCLUSION
Imoge King's theory ofOpen Systems Framework and Goal Attainment was discussed in
this chapter, although the study is based on the Open Systems Framework. The aim of
discussing both theories was highlighted, in that King's theory of an Open Systems
Framework forms the basis for the theory of Goal Attainment. This theory consists of
three systems, namely personal, interpersonal and social systems. These systems are in
continuous exchange with their environment. The application of King's theory of Open
Systems Framework to nursing and rehabilitation was also highlighted. The next chapter
will deal with the research methodology.
