<strong>are</strong> used to attack enemy fighters approaching from<br />

<strong>the</strong> rear quarter.<br />

Through its interface with <strong>the</strong> AN/ALQ-153 aft firecontrol<br />

radar, <strong>the</strong> AN/APQ-166 tracks both rocket<br />

and enemy fighter and transmits steering signals to<br />

<strong>the</strong> rockets. When <strong>the</strong> distance between <strong>the</strong> fighter<br />

and <strong>the</strong> rocket decreases to less <strong>that</strong> 200 yards, <strong>the</strong><br />

fire-control computer detonates <strong>the</strong> rocket.<br />

Maximum range is two miles.<br />

1) Select <strong>the</strong> LAUNCH button in <strong>the</strong> AFT MINES<br />

panel to launch and air mine.<br />

The EB-52 carries a maximum of 30 air mine rockets.<br />

The number remaining is listed in <strong>the</strong> AFT MINES<br />

control panel.<br />

JETTISON CONTROL Panel<br />

Should <strong>the</strong> aircraft be damaged yet still manage to<br />

return to home base, it is extremely unwise to<br />

continue carrying any left-over ordnance during<br />

landing approach and touchdown. At a safe distance<br />

from <strong>the</strong> airbase, excess ordnance should be<br />

jettisoned.<br />

1) Select <strong>the</strong> JETTISON button twice with a onesecond<br />

interval to deactivate and jettison all<br />

ordnance.<br />

EXTERNAL CAMERA<br />

The external camera station displays a view of <strong>the</strong><br />

EB-52 in <strong>the</strong> upper 3/4 of <strong>the</strong> display. The EB-52 is<br />

always in <strong>the</strong> center of <strong>the</strong> camera's view, except<br />

when <strong>the</strong> "Nose" or "Target" view buttons <strong>are</strong><br />

selected.<br />

In addition to <strong>the</strong> multi-station instruments, <strong>the</strong><br />

External Camera station has <strong>the</strong> following controls:<br />

4-Way switch<br />

Select <strong>the</strong> 4-way switch to <strong>the</strong> external camera in<br />

360_ arcs around <strong>the</strong> aircraft both horizontally and<br />

vertically.<br />

ZOOM IN/ZOOM OUT<br />

Select <strong>the</strong> ZOOM IN/ZOOM OUT buttons to move<br />

<strong>the</strong> camera closer to or far<strong>the</strong>r away from <strong>the</strong> aircraft.<br />

REMOTE view button<br />

Select <strong>the</strong> REMOTE button to allow <strong>the</strong> camera to<br />

move with complete freedom in observing <strong>the</strong><br />

aircraft.<br />
